Thurmond, WV
Thurmond is a town in Fayette Co, West Virginia situated on the New River. It was once a prosperous town during the coal mining age but began to decline around the mid-20th century because of the shift from coal mining to diesel/electricity. The town is still inhabited so, it's not classified as a ghost town only a dying town. As of the 2020 census, the population was recorded at 5. Most of Thurmond is owned and operated by the National Park Service of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. It also has an Amtrak station.
I took these photo with my Polaroid Flip, my newest camera. As you can see, it was very rainy, cloudy, and gloomy but I still got some great shots. I would have preferred a bright and sunny day to take pictures. Sometimes you got to work with what you can. I took a gamble with this day trip because the weather is always unpredictable. I had been wanting to visit Thurmond for a while now, but got a little lazy on my off days.
The photo on the right is the New River. The photo on the left is the bridge you have to drive over to reach the town of Thurmond. It's only one lane so traffic has to alternate. There's little observation balconies where pedestrians can stand on and look out.
So these pictures weren't taken in Thurmond. They were taken in Beckley, VW on the way to Thurmond.
