Greensboro: City of Murals

Some murals I shot around Greensboro NC.

 

 



 


 These photos were taken on two different days at two different points in time. The funny part? They're right beside each other.

 


 These murals are behind the movie theater.

 It's a little challenging to see due to the overexposure from the light.

 I couldn't get a good shot with my Polaroid because the sunlight was behind the building at the time. 

 


 

This mural is behind the train (maybe bus?) depot. I couldn't get closer for a better photo, unfortunately. 
 
 


I can't remember if it was a cloudy day. The mural is very opaque. Unsure of why the photos look so ashy lol.

 

Of all my Polaroids I've shot, this particular one is in my top five. I just wished it had been sunnier that day. I may re-shoot this again on a clear day.

 




 



I came across this other Native woman mural on a walk. Unfortunately, the area around her is fenced off. I couldn't get a closer shot. I need to go back with my iPhone and take a better picture of her.

   Stone Mountain (NC) is a 600 foot tall dome of exposed granite within proximity to Roaring Gap.  (Left Photo)  Just an abandoned house I saw on the side of the road. It was rainy and cloudy that day so, the pictures didn't come out the way I wanted them too.       There's a  long  staircase that leads down to the waterfall. Again, the weather wasn't the best hence why the middle photo is so dark.

New River Gorge Bridge

The West Virginia New River Gorge Bridge is the longest arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere at 3,030 feet long. The bridge was built 876 feet above the New Gorge River and is the third highest bridge in the U.S. The bridge opened in 1977 and the cost of construction was 37 million! Only one man was killed during its three year construction, which is remarkable when you think about it.  Back in November 2023, a friend and I signed up to do the Bridge Walk. We got to walk on the catwalk from beginning to the end and learned more history about the bridge. The New Gorge River Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 2013.  I decided to make the NRGB (for short) it's own series and post because I wound up taking several shots of it. Red Mountain Park, Birmingham, Alabama

At 1,500 acres, Red Mountain Park is the largest urban park in the United States. Red Mountain was the site of several mines that supplied iron ore to the blast furnaces of Birmingham and surrounding areas (there are remnants of furnaces in Brierfield and Tuscaloosa that are miles outside of the city). The crude iron mining operations contributed heavily to the city's growth and industry during the height of its use. The last ore mine closed in 1971.  Of all the places I've hiked around Alabama, RMP holds a special place inside my heart. I missed this place so badly after moving out of Alabama. I don't go back home to Alabama often, probably once a year at most.
